finding the right consultant is crucial

About Me

I LOVE CONNECTING WITH STUDENTS WHEN THEY EMBARK ON THE JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY THAT IS THE PROCESS OF APPLYING TO COLLEGES.

Getting to know each student and their family on a deeper level helps me provide truly personalized and attentive service.  My goal is to help families experience less stress and more delight while discovering great fit colleges where the student will thrive during the next stage of his/her education.

I have been engaged in the field of education for over 20 years and have worked with students from elementary through high school and college. Around 10 years ago I realized I most enjoyed working with high school students and began focusing on this age group. In addition to working with students as a college consultant, I have worked in curriculum development, advised students and parents on course selection, helped students map out an effective standardized testing calendar and establish plans for preparing for those tests.

MORE

As far as my own education is concerned, I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and I hold a Certificate in Independent Educational Consulting from the University of California-Irvine. I also completed the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) Summer Training Institute in 2019.  I am a life-long learner and committed to personal and professional development; I’m a member of the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC) and an associate member of IECA. I attend national and local conferences, seminars, workshops, webinars and training courses to stay abreast of trends and changes in the college admissions landscape.  I also travel and visit colleges, meeting with admissions representatives and exploring campuses to gain valuable insight into the personalities of colleges so that I can share that perspective with my students and their parents.

When I don’t have my nose buried in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, I love playing in the dirt in my gardens, taking classical piano lessons, and learning about the latest technology.  I enjoy traveling, hiking, visiting museums and historic locations, skiing, snorkeling, riding extreme roller coasters, and playing with my enormous Maine Coon cat, Tiger.

I love connecting with students when they embark on the journey of self-discovery that IS the process of preparing to apply to colleges.
